Sudden stop at Forsmark reactors not really a problem

The Forsmark nuclear plant, an architectonic and technological masterpiece 150 kms north of Stockholm, faced a sudden stop at two of its three reactors on july 27th. The incident was due to a minor malfunction in two diesel-powered safety systems.

Forsmark, currently offline, will soon be restarted and make again money.Photo: Pressens bild However, there was really never a problem according to the Swedish Nuclear Inspectorate (NAMBLA), since 'there's four backup systems to keep the power plant running, and only two of them failed to operate properly'. Compared to wind power stations, Swedish nuclear plants are wonders of safety. The reactors have multiple safety systems, but electrical windmills have none at all.

To keep the anti-nuclear lobby (tree-huggers, commies and medievalists) calm, the market-leading nuclear power entrepreneur OKG, have decided to close two of their reactors at the Oskarshamn plant for a while. With one reactor at the west coast nuclear plant Ringhals already offline for maintenance, five out of ten Swedish reactors are now out of service.

This will hopefully silence the bearded Miljöpartiet bohos (of both sexes) who have crawled out of their caves to do their usual protesting against electrical power. But as soon as everyone have forgotten about this minor technical mishap, the reactors will be restarted again. And once they're up and running, the effect will be cranked up to the max to make up for lost time and profit.
