Stieg Larsson - The Man behind MILLENNIUM Stills: SVT
Stieg Larsson - author and journalist

The man behind iEMMY nominee "Millennium" 2011

Stieg Larsson, journalist and author.

It´s been seven years since the relatively unknown journalist and reference-book author Stieg Larsson died of a heart attack one November day just after arriving at work.

Not until several months after his death did his trio of mystery novels, the Millennium series, hit the bookshelves. Stieg Larsson never got to experience its skyrocket to success - over 60 million copies of his books have been sold in 48 countries.
The books about Lisbet Salander and Mikael Blomkvist were made into feature films at home in Sweden, and in another month the Hollywood version will premiere.

But who was Stieg Larsson, really?
The conflict over his inheritance has become a soap opera in the world-wide media, but Stieg Larsson´s own life is less well known. Now for the first time, some of his closest friends and workmates speak out about their friend and colleague to journalist Karin Swärd.

This documentary paints a portrait of a poor boy from rural northern Sweden who grew up to be one of Europe´s leading experts on right-wing extremism and neo-Nazism.

After more than 20 years at news agency TT, and after having started the anti-fascist newspaper Expo, Stieg Larsson became a world-famous mystery writer posthumously.

If Larsson were alive today, he would be one of the richest people in Sweden.
